Photographs: Panoramas of Plauen

Between 2010 and 2015, I produced analogue large-format panoramas of Plauen. They primarily depict historic architecture, some of which was already in an advanced state of decay. Many of the buildings shown here have since been demolished or renovated.

For these images, I used a slightly shiftable panoramic camera with a relatively short focal length: a Chinese back, a German lens, and American 4x10-inch film holders. I built the central section of the camera myself; as a result, it bears a certain resemblance to a roadside speed camera.

In connection with an exhibition at the Galerie im Malzhaus Plauen in 2015, a catalogue was also published, kindly supported by the City of Plauen and the Vogtland-Zwickau cultural region.

Watercolours: Landscapes and Studies from Nature

In 2019, after a long break, I resumed working in watercolour. In contrast to my earlier works, these are rendered exclusively in black and white tones. As a result, I only require black paint, which is diluted with water according to the gradations of grey in the image. The white areas are simply left unpainted.

All works were created directly from nature, even though the absence of colour may give them a photographic appearance. The night scenes depict the view from the window of the respective dwelling, which allowed me to produce them even during the winter months. Most of the watercolours are studies from nature. They were created in Leipzig, in Plauen, or on the Polish Baltic coast.
